Equality Forum Kickoff event: Monday, April 28th
City Hall

On Monday, April 28th, NBC10 hosted a kickoff celebration in City Hall's Conversation room. Our Distinguished Service Award was presented to Dr. Patrick Burke, principal of The High School of Economics and Finance in lower Manhattan -- just one block from the World Trade Center. On September 11th, 2001, Dr. Burke heroically stayed behind during the evacuation of the school, checking each and every room insuring they were empty. As the twin towers crashed down around him, Burke, a Catholic, knelt down and prayed. Burke is also openly-gay, and has a life partner.
