EQUALITY FORUM HONORS
FORD MOTOR COMPANY CFO ALLAN GILMOUR
WITH ITS INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LEADERSHIP
AWARD
AS PART OF ITS INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS COLLOQUIUM
ON SATURDAY, MAY 3
Allan Gilmour, Vice Chairman and
CFO of Ford Motor Company, will receive
Equality Forum's first International
Business Leadership Award at a dinner
on Saturday, May 3 in Independence National
Historical Park. Equality Forum, the
premiere annual global gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender (GLBT) forum, runs from Monday,
April 28th to Sunday, May 4th in Philadelphia.
Co-chairs for the dinner are Scottie
Ginn, Vice President at IBM and John
Alchin, Executive Vice President and
Co-CFO of Comcast Corporation. Tickets to
the International Business Colloquium dinner
are available at www.equalityforum.com.
The dinner and panel on conducting business
in a global market are part of the International
Business Colloquium. The panel, exploring
look at workplace issues facing United States
and German GLBT executives and managers
and their opportunities in international
business, is moderated by Justin Nelson,
co-founder of the National Gay and Lesbian
Chamber of Commerce with panelists Klaus
Weinsrich, President of Volkslinger
Kreis, a national organization of German
gay business managers; Sally Sussman,
Senior Vice President of Global Communications
for The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc.; and
Walter Schubert, founder, chairman
and CEO of Gay Financial Network. The panel
will be held on Saturday afternoon at the
Prince Music Theater.
"Allan Gilmour is an exceptional recipient
of our International Business Leadership
Award," said Equality Forum's Executive
Director Malcolm Lazin. "In his capacity
as vice chairman and CFO of Ford Motor Company,
Allan serves as a model and inspiration
for other GLBT managers. He distinguishes
himself by being open about his sexual orientation
and embodies the best of workplace diversity."
68-year old Allan Gilmour spent 34 years
at Ford before retiring as vice chairman
in 1995. He returned to Ford Motor Company
as vice chairman and CFO in 2002 to help
revive the struggling automaker. During
his career, Gilmour served a variety of
roles in the company, including president
of the Ford Automotive Group, executive
vice president of International Automotive
Operations, chief financial officer and
vice president of External and Personnel
Affairs. He began at Ford in 1960, after
receiving a bachelor of arts degree from
Harvard and an MBA from the University of
Michigan. Gilmour is on the board of directors
of Prudential Financial, DTE Energy and
Whirlpool, and he was a founding member
of Equality Forum's National Board of Governors.
"Long-term success for any company
depends on hiring and retaining good people
and making everyone - gays and lesbians
included - feel welcomed and valued,"
said Gilmour. "This applies to customers
as well. Gays and lesbians are an important
consumer group and a company that pays attention
to them will find itself far ahead of the
competition."
Since its founding in 1993, Equality Forum
has become the world's largest annual gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT)
symposium and festival. It has expanded
from a three-day conference of 15 regional
organizations to a full week of events featuring
international, national and regional leaders
on a broad range of compelling issues. With
76 programs and social events presented
by 95 regional, national and international
non-profit organizations, Equality Forum
is the most in-depth program of the emergence
of a vibrant international GLBT community
and its civil rights aspirations.
