Kevin Bourassa & Joe Varnell

Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell are the first legally married same-sex couple in North America. Bourassa and Varnell became international advocates in 2001 when their marriage, and subsequent legal challenge, captured world headlines. They authored Just Married, a book about their wedding.

Kevin and Joe have traveled to the United States, Europe, and across Canada, advocating marriage equality through appearances, fundraisers, parades, speeches, and rallies. Bourassa and Varnell are active in building alliances in and outside of the gay community.
