Bishop Gene Robinson

Gene Robinson the first openly non-celibate gay priest to be ordained a Bishop in the Anglican Communion. In June 2003, Robinson was elected Bishop by the New Hampshire diocese. The selection resulted in national and international debate within the Episcopal Church and religious communities about clerical service by open gays and lesbians.

Robinson is the co-author of three AIDS education curricula for youth and adults and has done AIDS work in Africa. Within the diocese, he has facilitated anti-racism training.

As a priest, he was one of the founders of Concord Outright, a support group for GLBTQ teens. Bishop Robinson received the Human Rights Campaign's National Equality Award.
