In Fall 2003, Equality Forum in collaboration with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce contacted the CEOs and HR Directors of FORTUNE 500 companies that did not include "sexual orientation" in their hiring and employment non-discrimination policies. Equality Forum identified 177 companies that did not provide protection or whose status was unknown. Equality Forum provided information and offered assistance.
In Summer 2005, Equality Forum entered into a collaboration with Professor Louis Thomas, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Ian Ayres, William K. Townsend Professor, Yale Law School, to expand the FORTUNE 500 Project.
There are 464 (92.8%) 2005 FORTUNE 500 companies that provide non-discrimination protection for their gay and lesbian employees.

Equality Forum has also contacted the twenty-five largest mutual funds, investment managers, university endowments, philanthropic foundations and labor, state and municipal pension funds, requesting information on their proxy voting guidelines.
