2006 FORTUNE 500 Nondiscrimination Project

In Fall 2003, Equality Forum in collaboration with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce contacted the CEOs and HR Directors of FORTUNE 500 companies that did not include "sexual orientation" in their hiring and employment non-discrimination policies. Equality Forum identified 177 companies that did not provide protection or whose status was unknown. Equality Forum provided information and offered assistance.

In Summer 2005, Equality Forum entered into a collaboration with Professor Louis Thomas, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Ian Ayres, William K. Townsend Professor, Yale Law School, to expand the FORTUNE 500 Project.

September 1, 2006: Equality Forum issues a press release updating the status of the FORTUNE 500 project.
June 8, 2006: Equality Forum has contacted the new companies on the 2006 FORTUNE 500 list, seeking statements of compliance. To comply, a company must explicitly include "sexual orientation" in its employment nondiscrimination policy. The information on this site will be updated as responses are received.
